Journeyman Technician


Completes diagnostics, repairs and rebuilds on engine products in a service workshop under limited supervision.

Applies documented procedures and policies to complete complex repairs, including identifying and preparing required parts and tools

Disassemble, clean and reassemble engines and /or engine components

Performs preventative maintenance based on assessment of engines

Assists more experienced technicians with diagnostics and development of repair plans engines in the workshop

Completes required documentation, such as work completed documents, time sheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens

Completes training in line with skill and business requirements

Maintains work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation

Adheres to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to their supervisor


  • Inspecting and Rebuilding various engine components such as turbos, water pumps, lube pumps, intercoolers and aftercoolers at dedicated workstations

  • Measuring and inspecting critical engine parts such as Cylinder Heads, Connecting Rods, Crankshafts, Camshafts, Cylinder blocks and Geartrains at dedicated workstations

  • Measuring and inspecting various used engine parts to Cummins specifications to evaluate for reuse.

  • Installing, Testing and Troubleshooting engines on a dynamometer

  • Assembling engines and installing engine, into generator sets/power modules

  • Reviewing of electronic service manuals and assembly drawings to order parts or for technical information and direction

  • Disassembling engines, engine components and generator sets/power modules

  • Participating in Cummins Safety Programs

  • Supporting the Surrey Rebuild Center in various other technical tasks

  • Hold a valid Journeyman qualification in one or more of the following fields: Diesel Engine Repair, Automotive Machinist, Heavy Duty, Commercial Transport, Automotive Mechanic or Millwright

  • Prior experience rebuilding and repairing High Horse Power (HHP) engine platforms is considered an asset

  • Comfortable in an ISO 9001 Certified Shop following established disassembly, rebuild and reassembly procedures

  • Good organization, detail oriented with the ability to follow standardized work instructions and processes

  • Strong computer skills

  • Must be able to work unsupervised and be a strong team player

  • Able to work well under pressure in a production environment

  • Excellent customer service skills and understanding of customer expectations
